Where did the last 20 years go?
What is FI50?
Where did the last 20 years go?
One minute you’re strolling along, with big plans and all the time in the world. The next you’re staring down 50, or you’ve already passed it, wondering how the bloody hell that just happened.
Welcome to Fi50. In case you haven’t worked it out - that’s short for F*CK! I’M 50.
It’s a podcast about life, the things we’ve done, the things we haven’t done, the decisions we’ve made and what we might do differently with the years ahead.
I’m talking with everyday people who’ve got stories to tell. Some funny, some difficult, some inspiring and probably a few that will make us wonder what on earth we were thinking.
This is all about real people and honest conversations about doing all the things we’ve put off for far too long.
Why FI50?
Because getting older has a funny way of changing your perspective.
For most of our lives we’re busy doing what we think we’re supposed to do. Working, raising families, paying bills, chasing opportunities and occasionally wondering whether we’re heading in the right direction.
Then one day you realise just how quickly the years have disappeared.
Some of us have built successful careers. Some have started over more times than we care to remember. We’ve lost people, gained friends, made mistakes, celebrated wins and had things happen that we never saw coming.
And somewhere along the way, we’ve probably changed.
Fi50 is about looking back, having a laugh, being honest about the difficult bits and talking about what comes next.
Because there’s still plenty of life left to live.
Behind the microphone
G’day, I’m Paul Burfitt.
I’ve spent most of my life selling things, building businesses, chasing ideas and occasionally wondering whether I should have taken a completely different road.
I’ve raced cars, worked in motorsport, started businesses, had some wins and made plenty of mistakes along the way.
I’m now in my 50s, and I’ve started asking myself a few questions.
Where did all that time go? What really matters? And why do we keep putting things off until some imaginary perfect moment?
I don’t pretend to have the answers, but I do know I’m not putting things off any longer.
That’s partly why I started Fi50. I want to talk with people about their lives, their experiences and the things they’ve learned along the way.
Not to teach anyone how to live, but I do hope to pick up a few great tips along the way as we have conversations worth having.
If we can help just one person (and each other) along the way, then I’ll call that a success.
The conversations
No scripts. No rehearsed answers. No pressure. No therapy sessions…
Fi50 isn’t a traditional interview where I fire a list of questions at you and expect perfectly polished answers.
It’s more like two people catching up over a coffee.
We might talk about your childhood, career, family, relationships, successes, failures, adventures or the things you still want to do.
Sometimes the conversation might get serious. Sometimes we’ll have a good laugh. And sometimes we’ll wander completely off track. I’m pretty good at that bit!
That’s all part of it.
A few practical details:
- The recording
- We generally allow around 45–60 minutes for a relaxed conversation.
- Where
- We can record remotely, so you can join from home or somewhere comfortable, anywhere in the world.
- Equipment
- A computer, a reasonable microphone or headset, and a quiet space are usually all you need.
- Preparation
- Nothing formal. You don’t need a script, special answers or a remarkable life story.
- Publishing
- Conversations are edited and released as audio only podcast episodes, with selected video moments potentially shared on social media and video platforms with your ok.
And if there’s something you’d rather not discuss, that’s completely fine.
The idea is for both of us to enjoy the conversation.
You’re invited
Everybody has a story. Including you.
You don’t need to be famous, wealthy, successful or have climbed Mount Everest.
Perhaps you’ve changed careers, started a business, raised a family, lost someone important, overcome something difficult or just discovered that life didn’t quite turn out the way you imagined.
Maybe you haven’t figured any of it out yet.
Neither have I.
And that’s exactly why I’d love to have a chat.
If you’ve received an invitation from me, it’s because I think you’ve got something interesting to share.
Not because I expect you to have all the answers.
So come along, be yourself, and we’ll see where the conversation takes us.

Fancy a chat?
If I’ve invited you onto Fi50, just reply to my message and we’ll organise a time.
Or if you’ve found the show yourself and reckon you’ve got a story worth sharing, I’d love to hear from you.
Tell me a little about yourself, and we’ll take it from there.
